Trumpet player Ben Holmes is based Brooklyn, New York. Called "one of NYC's best young trumpet players" by All About Jazz magazine, his background covers territory including historical to modern Jazz, Eastern European folk music, and Mexican Banda. He performs regularly with ensembles including his own quartet, Tarras Band, the Ben Holmes/Patrick Farrell Duo, Banda de los Muertos, Justin Mullen's Delphian Jazz Orchestra, the Frank Carlberg/Nicholas Urie City Band, Brooklyn Qawwali Party and One Ring Zero. He has recorded with Gogol Bordello, Balkan Beat Box and Vampire Weekend.

He recently recorded a new album of all original material for his quartet, featuring Curtis Hasselbring (trombone), Matt Pavolka (bass), and Vinnie Sperrazza (drums), clips of which can be heard on this site. Check back for details of its impending release in Fall 2012!

Tarras Band, a quintet dedicated to the repertoire of the great Yiddish-American clarinetist Dave Tarras and featuring longtime Tarras accompanist Pete Sokolow on piano, has released a record, available on iTunes and CD Baby.

'Ben Holmes Trio', his debut record featuring Vinnie Sperrazza (drums) and Dan Loomis (bass), was released in late 2009 and recieved 4/5 stars in Downbeat Magazine - see the Buy Music/Reviews tab for more info.

He has also composed a suite of songs based on the poetry of W. H. Auden for trumpet, trombone, viola, bass, drums, and two singers. Recording to be made sometime between now and the end of time.
